The beginning
Charlie built the first Didjeribone in 1981.
Charlie McMahon designed and built the first Didjeribone in 1981. His band Gondwana wanted the didgeridoo to become a tuned, melodic focus—not only a rhythmic layer.
The sliding design lets a player adjust tone, play in key with other musicians and shift pitch naturally during a song.
The instrument today
Australian made and played around the world.
Lightweight and approachable, the Didjeribone suits children and first-time players. For experienced performers it opens fresh ground for original playing—and means one instrument can cover many keys.
